Made from the wood of a 145 year old shagbark hickory tree, “Twisted Torque” is a very stout combination of gear tooth forms with large socket head cap screws to accent its heavy industrial look. The hickory wood is naturally spalted, giving a unique appearance in color contrast, and is yet dense and very heavy.  The aluminum support piece allows the sculpture free rotation upon its solid granite base, and is one of my first castings using my home made crucible.  The aluminum was melted from an old screen door.
