The Australian Banksia trees have a nut, or seed pod, that is large enough to create things from. The grain of the seed pod shows beautiful patterns when cut.

The resin cast sides of this cube are about 3/8" thick, leaving the center hollow and showing the exterior of the seed pod -now on the inside.

The translucent material is polyurethane resin (dyed blue) and cobalt tinted mica-powder for an iridescent effect.  The principal exercised here is that a minimalist exterior contrasts the visible chaotic interior, while that interior is actually the wood's original outer form.

The cube measures about 6" along the flats, but stands 9" tall. The base is an Australian Red Mallee burl with a geometric pocket for stable placement.
