Red River Gum Burl

The literal name for this wood is Red River Gum. It's a burl from Australia. The inclusions and voids are not from insects or decay, but rather are the nature of the wood's development. The gnarly exterior versus the beautiful grain and color within expresses likeness to a geode. I've opened the burl and used solid steel to hint at the form of a flower.  The base is fabricated and blacksmithed, fastened from behind the burl wood.

13.5" tall, 10.5" wide, 9" deep.
