Box Elder is a maple species, also known as ash leaf maple. The redness is caused by a wood boring insect that brings a fungus into the tree. The tree's immune system then repels the fungus, causing the red color. I've taken steps to assure the longevity of the natural red.

This star-like form expresses a motion of forward pushing strength under stress, as does the true character of the wood and the cause of its fiery patterns.

20.5" tall, 17" wide. The base is black marble.
