Both inviting and defensive, the creation of this sculpture was inspired by the observed characteristic of gentleness and danger seen in much of the natural world; flower and berry plants with thorns, cute animals with sharp teeth, claws, and thorns, etc.  The body was made from a single board being cut into triangles, then slid onto a bent steel wire and adhered together, followed by sculpting and meticulous sanding. The structure is very rigid. I made the aluminum pieces on a lathe, as well as the solid steel base. The sculpture is not top-heavy, and stands firmly.
