The main wood in this piece is California Buckeye Burl. The specimen is a root structure, and its character shows its stress. The free-form twisting movement contrasts the progressive stack of wood spheres dyed black. The sculpture represents resurrection and ascension as a dead, underground object is shaped and arranged to express upward movement, accented by spheres that show acceleration into distance. The spheres hint astronomy as a distant power descends into earth to arise the form.

Hidden fasteners firmly join the spheres together and to the burl.

22" tall.
