Quilted, Spalted maple

Please click on the images for a more detailed view.

This form was made from a single piece of wood, divided into two. The pieces are held separate from each other to create the interesting crevasse. The "quilted" feature refers to the distorted grain pattern that shimmers when moved under light. The "spalted" quality is defined by the color variations caused by early stages of fungal decay, which are halted after the drying and seasoning of the wood. The two forms are securely supported by 1/2" thick still posts, inserted and adhered deeply into the wood and the black marble base.  Stands 21" tall. AVAILABLE
