Boxelder, also known as Ash Leaf Maple, can be found with extraordinary red streaks within it. The phenomenon only happens in the male tree and is the result of the tree's immune system repelling a fungus that a beetle brings into the tree, and can be seen near any of the small holes were the insect left the tree. The glossy wood finish has UV blockers to prevent the fading of color.
