Beginning as one piece of figured maple, this piece was cut in two, sculpted separately, rejoined, and tinted with blue dye. The accents are cocobolo wood and disguise the fasteners that hold the two pieces together. The base is solid steel, supporting the piece with great stability due to its weight. The 1/2" steel rod extends four inches into the wood.
