Box elder (form 4)

Please click on the images for a more detailed view.

Box Elder is a maple species that can offer incredible red patterns which are the result of the tree's immune system fighting the presence of a fungus that a beetle has brought into the tree. This is why there are small holes wherever redness exists. The permanence of color is assured as a synthetic dye has been matched and applied via airbrush as precisely as possible, to prevent fading in time, as box elder is known to do (with UV and oxidation exposure). The two forms that comprise this sculpture are fastened and adhered together. The firm base is made of steel. 19 inches tall.  AVAILABLE
