Gearing Up

Please click on the images for a more detailed view.

“Gearing Up” is made of cherry and maple woods. This is the first “assembled” sculpture I’ve made.  The brass ring was salvaged from a roller bearing and the copper, brass, and stainless steel fasteners were collected from electrical equipment scrap at the Keokuk, Iowa hydroelectric dam, which was once the world’s greatest industrial marvel until the Panama Canal was finished.  I was there several years ago with a friend repairing a generator rotor bearing journal.
