Journey

Please click on the images for a more detailed view.

“Journey” is made of a thirty-five year old Siberian Elm that grew here in Rockford, Illinois. It is carved from one solid piece, freehanded without planning. The surface finish is natural, having no stains or dyes. It has been treated with linseed oil.

The tree had three main branches from the trunk. This sculpture captures the strength of the tightly woven grain in the transitional area of that junction.

It’s rhythmic movements and fine lines offer a strong appeal of having a life of it’s own. “Journey” brings an attention-demanding presence wherever it is placed, and is seen beautifully from all sides.
